ABOUT

Hello, friend!

My name is Tina Alberino. I am a licensed cosmetologist, salon owner, and management consultant who has been working in the professional beauty industry since 2002. My weird fascination with tax and employment law and exceptional talent for creative profanity are directly responsible for this website, where I do my best to break complex business management and professional development concepts into terms we can all easily understand. I work as a salon management consultant, educator, and advocate for the rights of beauty workers.

Before this, I was like you. Whether you’re a passionate student, an enthusiastic new professional, a weary industry veteran, a frazzled booth renter, a perpetually busy salon manager, or an overwhelmed salon owner—I have been in your shoes and I learned a whole lot of lessons the hard way.

although I’ve walked in your shoes, you shouldn’t have to walk in mine.

Over the years, I came to the following realizations:

  • Too many professionals struggle to succeed because their schools lied about what to expect and didn’t teach them how to excel.
  • Too many industry veterans spread damaging professional philosophies and outdated advice, causing newer professionals to feel inadequate and unworthy, making it harder for them to achieve their goals.
  • Too many beauty professionals leave the business before their first license renewal. Many who stay are punished because they don’t know their rights or how to spot common labor abuses.
  • Too many salon owners invest time and money into businesses destined to fail due to their lack of business education and legal knowledge.

You deserve to succeed in this INDUSTRY in the least traumatic way possible.

This site will ensure you’re educated, confident, prepared, and motivated to make this industry your industry for life. You’ll learn all about your rights and responsibilities, what is and isn’t acceptable at work, how to make intelligent career decisions, how to manage your business, and how to be awesome, productive, and profitable every damn day.

Does my name sound familiar? In 2014, I wrote and published The Beauty Industry Survival Guide, a career guide for beauty professionals. I followed that up in 2018 with Salon Ownership and Management: A Definitive Guide to the Professional Beauty BusinessMy written work can also be found in many industry trade publications.
