I'm in Louisiana and am having trouble finding information on my situation. I work in a salon where I'm paid 50% comm. The owner supplies back bar and chemicals, we are required to supply our tools and any products we use at our stations, we are given a set day off each week and are required to be at the salon from open to close the other days of the week, we are strictly walk-ins and are not allowed to set appts with our clients, they can however request us to do their service, we are given weekly service goals to meet for the salon, we are required to pay a cleaning person, if a client wants to purchase a product we have used on them we have to let the owner know and she orders it, she carries very little retail, we have set prices we have to charge - set by the owner. She holds out no taxes from our pay and issues a 1099 at the end of the year, we are paid every Friday and cash on Saturday, there are some days where I only do 3 haircuts @ $15 each and only make 22.50 for that day. We are not allowed to leave early if it is slow, we take payment at the register and each of us have a column in an appt book where we write down the service we did and the price we charged, at the end of the week our columns are totaled and divided in half, that is our pay. We get paid by check on Saturday morning (for our services M-F) but are not allowed to cash or deposit it until the following Tuesday to make sure it doesn't bounce! I feel like I'm being cheated and not treated fairly but do not know what to do.
